דָּם - DAM, The Blood

Covenant is ratified more made through the blood. Living in the covenant, we come into oneness with our Lord and savior, Yeshua.

 

 

How do we come into that oneness? It is through the blood.

 

What is blood and how does it bring us into oneness? First let’s lay the framework for what the blood is beginning with the Hebrew letters. Blood is a simple word with just two letters which convey a powerful reality. In Hebrew blood is “dam”.

 

Dam consists of the dalet and the mem. Dalet is the word picture of a door which tells us right away that blood is a gateway. The “mem” is the character for water and is used to represent chaos. The composite is that the blood is the gateway against the force of chaos, disorder.

 

The scriptures tell us that there is life in the blood.

 

“But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.” (Gen 9:4)

 

Also, the Lord told Moses that it is by the blood that atonement is made.

 

 

The blood, the doorway out of chaos into light and order is the tool that bridges us into eternal life.

 

Let’s look at an application of the blood called the threshold covenant. When a Middle-eastern person welcomes a guest into their home, an animal would be sacrificed in their honor. The blood of the animal would be placed on the threshold of the home. This would signify the covenant protection and provision of the home for the guest and that the homeowner would defend them to their death.

 

The type and value of animal sacrificed would express the relative importance of the guest. Typically, a goat or a lamb would be sacrificed. If the king was visiting, the fattened calf would be sacrificed. The fatted calf was an animal especially bred for this honor. Today, fattened calves are bred in Japan and called wagyu beef. These cows are specially bred to maximize their marbling or fat content. The term wagyu, means literally Japanese Cow. By naming the fattened calf as the calf of Japan, the nation has exalted it to the highest position. This is also true in biblical culture.

 

This brings the parable of the prodigal son returning home into a new light.

 

 

The robe, ring and sandals are symbols of a restoration inside the covenant. The fattened calf supersedes these as it demonstrates the value the father has placed on the return of his son. This is the offering to honor a king. The prodigal is valued like royalty!

 

Yeshua who knows that He will die and become the like the fattened calf of the Father, tells us that the value or importance of the salvation of a lost one is like a resurrection from the dead. This is a powerful value statement, prefiguring the resurrection of Yeshua and believers with a salvation from the wages of sin and death.

 

Each soul’s salvation is life from the dead. Taking a step back and looking at the whole parable, the prodigal son takes all of his gifts and talents, his inheritance from his father and wastes them in service of the world.

 

This is all of us. Apart from repentance and returning to the Father all our gits and talents will be in the service of sin and the kingdom of darkness.

 

Returning to the blood. It the blood of the fattened calf that is the symbol of honoring royalty through the threshold covenant.

 

The king is the symbol of order and lawfulness in the kingdom and defines the boundaries of that rule. When someone sacrifices the fattened calf, it is honoring the authority of the king and committing oneself to a covenant bond to that authority.

 

Yeshua is the most valuable sacrifice in all of time. Fat represents the anointing, shemen. Shemen is made up of the word shem, which means name, character or essence of an individual and nun which is the symbol of a seed. So, oil, is the representation of the seed or reproductive capacity of the character or essence of the Father. Yeshua is the oiled one or anointed one, the Messiah. The anointing, the oil, is the symbol of the agency of the Father-God. Prophets were anointed, kings were anointed, and the entire people of God are anointed.

 

Let’s go a little deeper. The anointed sacrifice of God to honor the royalty of those saved by grace, is embodied in Yeshua, the anointed lamb of God. He shed His blood not only for our redemption from sin but also for our restoration as sons and daughters of the king.

 

The blood, dam, opens the door from the world system of chaos and relative morality into the restoration of the kingdom and of the sons and daughters of the king. This is the royal blood line.

 

Most of us have never experienced a kingdom. There are no true kingdoms on the earth. All of man’s systems of authority are based on mob rule. The voice of the majority or in more totalitarian systems the rule of a minority enforced with military strength are what pass for governments today.

 

Even most of the biblical kingdoms operated the same. The only example that comes close to what God as king was the rule of David. God chose David and anointed Him as King. Even Saul who God also anointed was not as Godly a choice because he was chosen because the people, the mob wanted a king for the purpose of being like other nations.

 

 

Samuel did anoint Saul, but it was for his external characteristics. He was tall and strong and had the bearing of the kings of his time. He was physically a picture of what the people wanted a king for, to be strong like the nations around them. This is still true today. We want our leaders to fight our fights for us. God has a different goal. David’s kingdom gives us a glimpse.

 

David was the least among his brothers. He was chosen by God to show us that God chooses His “kings”, his royalty based on His work in their hearts, not their external qualifications. His choice and anointing are transformative. Choosing the least seems foolish to a world system that rules by force. But God who rules through yielded hearts has an entirely different value system.

 

 

This is the power of the blood. He chooses us and then transforms us into kings and queens in His kingdom.

 

 

We tend to focus on the word priests here because it gives us the idea that we are save to serve Him, which is indeed true. And we know the idea that we are citizens of His kingdom. Yet what we can easily miss is that we are of His bloodline, royal blood. This blood that now gives us life gives us standing in the spiritual world which is the true reality.

 

 

We are trained in the first parts of this. We readily agree that we are in a kingdom, His kingdom, and we readily accept that we are through the blood purchased from every tribe, language, people and earthly nations. We even accept that we are to serve Him and priests. But what we are rarely taught is that His blood, the doorway out of chaos also made us to rule upon the earth! This means we have standing and authority by the covenant. He has shed the anointed blood, the anointed Lamb of God, the Christ, Messiah not just to take us out of sin and the world but to rain us in His ruling and reigning as royalty.

 

Think about that for a moment. Say you found out that you were the child of a monarch in some realm in the earth. Unbeknownst to you, you were destined for rulership. It wasn’t because you had any training or had been raised to lead. No! It was just because the blood in your veins was royal blood. This is called standing.

 

Recently we saw evidence of corruption in our elections. Cases and challenges were brought by the states against the federal government. The court had to decide if the case had standing. Standing is a way of determining the legitimacy of a perspective.

 

 

Standing is a condition not only of physical posture but also legitimate authority. As children who have the blood of the King of Kings in our veins, we have the authority of royalty by that blood. We are called to rulership.

 

Does this mean we can just bully our way into situations? No, of course not. Just because we are princes and princesses of the King does not mean we can be obnoxious. No, quite the opposite. Because we have royal blood, we are called to be the best examples of who He is. He chose us as rulers but we still, must learn how to walk in that standing. God owns all the kingdoms of this world. We must learn the servant-leadership of the King.

 

How do we do that? We learn from Him through His Spirit how to be servant kings and queens!

 

Activation: See yourself as a newly discovered son or daughter of royalty. You have lived as a commoner all of your life. Your natural instincts are to feel inferior. When you face authority in your life, your natural reaction is fear. But now you discovered that you are that authority that you have feared. You can put away your fear, not over night because it is ingrained in your old identity. The again natural reaction is to try to overcome your fear with a show of your new power, But you realize that this royalty that you are is a royalty of serving and of love. You now can only rule by becoming a servant of all through love. This is your true identity, a ruler in love by preferring others and showing them the true nature of their king. Ask Him to help you in standing in your true authority and watch the power flow!
