“Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.” (1Sa 12:24, NASB)
The heart has a true language that resonates with the heart as it was created to be. This language foundational and is based in truth. Truth is the pathway to freedom for the heart.
“and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (Jhn 8:32, NASB)
When the Bible speaks of “knowing”, it speaks of an intimate oneness. “knowing” the truth is not so much about head knowledge of truth as principles, but an intimate knowledge that comes into a oneness with the truth.
This kind of knowing is unconscious and integrated fully into who we are.
There are 4 stages to learning a truth which is transformative.
The first is to be unconscious of lack of knowledge. We don’t know what we don’t know. The Bible calls this state ignorance.
““And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers also did.” (Act 3:17, NASB)
Secondly, we become conscious of our lack of knowledge don’t fully understand why we do what we do but we own that we are doing it. Paul describes this as:
“For I do not understand what I am doing; for I am not practicing what I want to do, but I do the very thing I hate.” (Rom 7:15, NASB)
This leads us to the third stage of being confronted with what we want to change and trying to change that which bothers us about us. This is the place where we are especially vulnerable to the manipulations of religion. Religion takes that which we don’t like about ourselves and convinces us to work to change it. Usually this includes measures, that become traditions, rules etc. that become a replacement for the true freedom that comes from “knowing” the truth. Yeshua wrestled with the Pharisees on this very issue:
“Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.” He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. “For Moses said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER’; and, ‘THE ONE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS CERTAINLY TO BE PUT TO DEATH’; but you say, ‘If a person says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is, given to God),’ you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother; thereby invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.” (Mrk 7:8-13, NASB)
What makes this such a dangerous level is that it replaces the grace of God with formulas and actions that are supposed to be on the path. Yeshua goes on to say:
“After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside the person which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which come out of the person are what defile the person.” And when He later entered a house, away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him about the parable. And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding as well? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the person from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” (Thereby He declared all foods clean.) And He was saying, “That which comes out of the person, that is what defiles the person. “For from within, out of the hearts of people, come the evil thoughts, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders, acts of adultery, deeds of greed, wickedness, deceit, indecent behavior, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. “All these evil things come from within and defile the person.”” (Mrk 7:14-23, NASB)
Jesus is taking about the language of the heart. These “evil” thoughts reveal what language is operating inside a person and where they live from.
The fourth state of knowing is transformational knowing, where what we know transforms who are. This is the knowing that comes by grace. Only truth revealed by grace can become one with us because we are no longer the same person once we have been transformed by that truth.
The most obvious example of this kind of knowing is our salvation. When we are saved, we don’t just learn new truths. No by grace we are transformed into a new creation:
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2Co 5:17, NASB)
This is the power of transformation in the heart, it changes who we are.
Now, let’s look at the true battle. Paul tells us of a war:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Eph 6:12, NASB)
I know it would seem that Paul is speaking of fighting spiritual forces in heaven. Yet I believe the heavenly places he is speaking about is the dwelling place of God’s Holy Spirit, our heart.
“However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Rom 8:9-11, NASB)
We battle in our own hearts. Against what? Against the impostor. Who is the impostor? He or she is the image we carry of ourselves based on our life story. Yeshua calls this “our life”.
““For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it. “For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits himself?” (Luk 9:24-25, NASB)
In other words, He is saying that even if the impostor that we have generated succeeds by cleverly manipulating the world, this in authentic self will ultimately cause us to forfeit our true self.
There is no “me” that I can assemble that will be the true “me” that Yeshua gave His life to liberate. Any identity I piece together will of necessity be based in partial conclusions about life that will be often based on falsehoods that are derived in pain and trauma.
This is why Yeshua challenged the religious authorities by tying them to the father of lies, Satan.
““You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.” (Jhn 8:44, NASB)
Yeshua came to destroy these lie-based identities and creations.
“the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” (1Jn 3:8, NASB)
What are the works of the devil? Well, he is a deceiver and so we do his works when we practice deception. Where do we practice deception? In our heart by the words we speak and listen to whose design is self-protection. I know because I am dealing with this in myself. When I feel accused my heart instinctively tries to protect to cover up. Yeshua described this language of self-protection:
““You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart. “The good person brings out of his good treasure good things; and the evil person brings out of his evil treasure evil things. “But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment. “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”” (Mat 12:34-37, NASB)
This is a battle between the words of self-protection and the true protection that comes from Him.
For most of my life, I have reacted with self-protection. My desire is to release myself to His protection. I want to move from my comfort zone, my habits of denial, trying to escape and fighting or fleeing to being in the true comfort that comes from Him.
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. “The one who does not love Me does not follow My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me. “These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you. “Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.” (Jhn 14:23-27, NASB)
It is by turning to Him, when we want to fight or run, that we can find true peace. His holy language of the heart speaks to us and we will experience a breakthrough!
Activation: Allow the Lord to show you a time when you were ready to fight or to run. This is the fight or flight response which medicine tells us is based in fear. Yeshua came to destroy the words that produce the fear. Let Him speak to you His words of comfort that will give you another choice.
