Activation of the Spirit: The Key of Compassion

David Mitts

“Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."” (Exo 33:19, NKJV)

Where Treasure Is Heart Is - Matthew 6:19

One of the issues of faith and moving in the realm of the Spirit is learning how to operate in alignment with the Spirit of God.

With respect to fully operating in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, Yeshua said: “Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” (John 5:19, NKJV)

The question becomes what did Yeshua see the Father doing? And secondly how did He know what the Father was doing while operating in a human body?

The key to these questions, I believe and the key to our operating in the anointing of God is coming into oneness with God. Yeshua prayed in John 17 a critical prayer of empowerment:

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” (Jhn 17:1-4, NKJV)

The emphasis here is on the word “glory”. Yeshua ties this to the authority “over all flesh”. This authority which is tied to the “glory” is to deliver the kingdom what He calls “eternal life” to those whom the Father has given to Him.

Next He clarifies what “eternal life” is, intimate knowing of the Father and Jesus Christ who was sent by the Father to the earth for this purpose. This intimacy is defined as being glorified, bringing this full circle.

The challenge with the word “glory” is it has lost its specific meaning and been turned into a religious gobbledygook. Let’s put a little work into reclaiming what Yeshua is telling us.

Going back to Genesis, we remember Moses crying out to see God’s glory:

And he said, "Please, show me Your glory."” (Exo 33:18, NKJV)

 God responds by saying:

“Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."” (Exo 33:19, NKJV)

Then He goes on to hide Moses in the cleft of a rock and allows Moses only to see His backside. A lot has been said about Moses and seeing the face of God. I’m not going to deal with that right now. Instead, I want to look at the answer God gives to Moses about His “glory”.

He proclaims His glory as:

  1. Goodness

  2. The Name of the Lord

  3. Grace

  4. Compassion

If we go back now and look at the life and death of Yeshua, Is it not true that He lived and showed the goodness of God, revealed His Name, was gracious and full of compassion.

This is God’s glory! His own response to who He is by “glory”. The Hebrew word for Glory is “kavod”. The word means the heaviness or weightiness of a matter. In the energy-matter continuum, glory would be the visible, tangible aspect of the immaterial energetic reality. The Apostle Paul explains:

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,” (Rom 1:20, NKJV)

Quantum physics tells us that what we see as solid matter is just very slow vibration of the atomic interactions. In that sense a table is the “glory” of the atoms of wood that are vibrating that appear to our senses as a solid table, which is the glory of the table. Glory is evident in manifestation.

Another concept that gives us a glimpse of glory is character.  A person’s character is the manifestation of the inner man. It is the outward expression of the inner reality of the spirit of a man or a woman. This is their glory, how they are “known” in the world. Let’s go back to John 17:5-8:

“And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.” (Jhn 17:5-8, NKJV)

He begins with Glory again but now that we understand a little bit about it, it makes sense. Yeshua had a glory with the Father before the world began. This means He knew intimately the character and manifest nature of God before the first word of creation was spoken. This is eternal seed nature. The DNA of God expressed by His Creating.

At the time of this verse, Yeshua is about to be crucified which will end the life as a man in His body. In resurrection He returns to His eternal nature of oneness with the Father, the glory. He goes on the explain for our benefit, that He manifested the Name of The Father. The Name contains the character and so He was the Father to all whom He encountered. Because God is His Name and His Name is Good, All that He says and does is Good including all He speaks.

Now we reach the real purpose of this prayer, us:

“"I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.” (Jhn 17:9-11, NKJV)

The point of all of this is the manifestation of the Glory which reveals itself through the intimate knowing of who He is. This is called being one with Him, echad. This is covenant talk. When Yeshua says all mine are yours and yours are mine, He is speaking of covenant. The oneness He is proclaiming is the oneness of the bride and the bridegroom. This oneness manifests the glory.

Skipping down a bit to verses 20-22, Yeshua restates this and summarizes it all:

“"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:” (Jhn 17:20-22, NKJV)

This is a powerful reality and reveals how we are to be to activate the gifts of the spirit. Since Yeshua represented the Father on the earth and now, we have the same role to demonstrate His glory, then one aspect that we can began with is compassion. Remember from Exodus 33:19, He said: and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

Compassion releases Healing.  “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” (Mat 14:14, NKJV)

What is compassion and how do we activate it in ourselves? The Hebrew word is Racham. It literally means the innermost productive part of a human. Its image is the uterus, rechem in Hebrew and it gives the picture of where the seed is implanted in our being and brings forth new life. It is no accident that this is the image for what is released in healing and the restoration of life. We’ll look into more depth considering the parable of the sower as a healing manifestation manual, but for now let’s consider that we have to be touched in our innermost being with the caring for the life of another for healing to be released.

Once we realize that it is the condition of our heart and how feel compassion that allows for healing because it isn’t really about us, but about His glory through us and He heals by compassion.

Activation: Compassion exercise: Yeshua told us to love others as we love ourselves. One of the barriers to compassion for others is compassion for ourselves. We tend to get down on ourselves for the mistakes we make. You can also ask the Lord, “What do I need to hear right now to express kindness to myself?” Listen to what He says and allow Him to become One, echad with you?

Hi David and Lisa, I have done at least 5 Revelation studies and am currently in BSF for the year studying Revelation. I can honestly say I have never understood or made sense of the book of Revelation until lately. I have been going over your series of Revelation, along with the BSF workbook and class. I have never had a clearer understanding of the four horsemen., the 7 seals, and the 7 trumpets, which we are currently on in BSF, where they give thought-provoking questions, and then you have given me the answers. I really appreciate you for teaching all of this and Charles for taking the time to post and send it to me. It takes time to absorb it all, which I couldn't fully do with the Shabbat meetings(and I missed some), so having the whole series to keep going back to has been such a help in understanding Revelation. I have even shared with my BSF group what the four horsemen represent, which none of them knew. Thank you so much for your work and support. Love and blessings to all of you!
