Offering: Devoted Things - Joshua 6:17

Last chapter we spoke about opening the eyes of our heart. We know that the way we see things affects our ability to live in the Spirit. We not only have natural eyes but we also have spiritual eyes because we are created in the image of God and so our spirit-self has its own senses that can tap into realms that are invisible to the natural eyes.

We see an example of this with Elisha and his servant, when Israel is facing the Arameans:

Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “This is hopeless, my master! What are we to do? “This is the realm of natural seeing. Notice it often produces fear. Resources are limited and thus faith is impacted!

And Elisha said, Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.” Elisha is seeing with a different sight, the “eyes” of the heart. This is the realm of the Kingdom of God and is the realm of faith and miracles.

Then Elisha prayed and said, LORD, please, open his eyes so that he may see.”

This tells us the seeing by the spirit is a gift of the Spirit.

And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.”

Sight is so critical that Elisha used blindness for the strategy to take the enemy.

So He struck them with blindness in accordance with the word of Elisha. Then Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, nor is this the city; follow me and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” And he brought them to Samaria. When they had come into Samaria, Elisha said, “LORD, open the eyes of these men, so that they may see.” So the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.” (2Ki 6:15-20, NASB)

A couple of points here: First, fear is blinding and it leads to hopelessness. Faith is empowering and it allows us to see the abundance of the Lord. Secondly, Elisha asks for the enemy to be made blind. Blindness is a description of powerlessness. It allowed to guide his enemies who were sent to kill him into the camp of Samaria. This proves that spiritual sight is a condition of the heart, of faith and it reveals abundance.

Yeshua pointed out this kingdom contrast in John 10:10.

““The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, NASB)

These are not just descriptions of the 2 kingdoms but also perspectives which are revealed by spiritual sight. Yeshua sees the abundant life and He sees the stealing, killing, and destruction as being sourced by the enemy. There is a lot more that we could and will say about spiritual sight in the future, but I want to turn now to one of the Messianic signs that proved the Messiah was Yeshua.

Look with me at John 9. Beginning at verse 1.

As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth.” (John 9:1, NASB)

Never had an Israelite who had been born blind received his sight. These disciples ask:

And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”” (Jhn 9:2, NASB)

Sight is so key to life that it was commonly assumed that blindness was a curse that resulted from sin. But Yeshua tells us otherwise:

Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. “We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. “While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” When He had said this, He spit on the ground, and made mud from the saliva, and applied the mud to his eyes,” (Jhn 9:3-6, NASB)

The blindness from birth was the place where the “works of God” could be displayed or revealed. What Yeshua does is a creative miracle. In other words, it is an act directly from the creation of the world. He is not just healing an issue, but he is demonstrating that He is the Creator. This is why it is one of the Messianic proofs. Eyes and sight are being created from the adamah, the ground.

Remember the word for likeness is “dam:, or blood. He is touching the earth realm of darkness and bringing His light in Genesis 1 His Spirit hovers over darkness and speaks light. He is not only creating eyes that can see in the natural but also eyes that can see in the Spirit. How do we know the man’s eyes can also see in the Spirit?

Skipping down in the story, the seeing man is being challenged by the religious.

So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner." He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?" He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?"” (Jhn 9:24-27, NKJV)

The opening of his eyes led him to challenge the religious to become disciples. Of course they were truly blind so their response is:

Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples. We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from." The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!” (Jhn 9:28-30, NKJV)

The newly recreated man realizes that not only can he see physically but he can see something the religious cannot. This he declares as marvelous. He then connects the dots:

Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing."” (Jhn 9:31-33, NKJV)

Not only has his physical eyes been opened but also his spiritual eyes and he perceives the truth. He then meets Yeshua and joyfully accepts Him and worships!

This is the power of spiritually seeing. Being born again opens this up. We need to continue to pursue more revelation, increased light, and more of His abundance and multiplication.

All who have born of the Spirit have access to the eyes of the heart being enlightened as Paul prayed:

“Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” (Eph 1:15-19, NKJV)

Paul asks for the gift which he describes as the spirit of wisdom, revelation of knowing Him, and the eyes being enlightened all of which produces knowing the hope of His calling and produces His inheritance in those who believe.

I believe that we have access to this impartation, but it needs to be activated by us in faith.

Paul instructs Timothy in this way:

“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” (1Ti 4:14-16, NKJV)

Timothy has received a gift. It was his responsibility to activate it. Thinking back to Elisha’s situation, he didn’t just suddenly “see” but had trained himself in seeing by seeking the Lord. Paul is telling Timothy to seek the Lord through meditation. He was told to give himself entirely to the process so that the fruit could be seen by others.

So the point is, is that we need to exercise and activate our ability to see. Now, a couple of things. I'm going to move into an actual prayer and then do an exercise with you.

Activation: A very simple one to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Take a song like Lisa's song, "Like a Storm," and allow the imagery in the song to activate your imagination. You will come into a place of worship that's much more devoted than singing the song with your mind kind of half there, not there, if you know what I'm talking about.

The opportunity is to activate your spiritual sight and see the imagery in your spirit.

So another way is to activate yourself with the scriptures. So let me just say a quick prayer here.

Prayer: Jesus, you have said, ask and you shall receive. I am asking that you and the Holy Spirit help and teach us how to see in the spirit. I want to see in the spirit to help my family and to help your body, with this gift, I want to help others and lead other people to you. I ask that you remove any scales from my eyes or lack of focus and cleanse my eyes, and I consecrate them to you. I devote them to you for your grace and the wonderful gifts you have given in Jesus' name. Amen.

This scripture is a power key. "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training and righteousness. Why? So that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3.16-17)

Scripture contains the Holy Spirit. It's breathed, it's inspired, it's breathed upon by God.

We can take the Scripture and because it's breathed of God, if we'll meditate on it and begin to see,.

Get an audio Bible and allow the Bible to be read to you which will enable you to pause, go back, and just absorb the imagery because the Scripture contains the Spirit and when we access it in meditation and allow it to show and reveal things, we begin to build an experiential database of the provision and the love of God that fills us and empowers us for the various situations that are in front of us on a daily basis, and we can operate according to abundance and faith instead of fear and longing. Praise the Lord.

Hi David and Lisa, I have done at least 5 Revelation studies and am currently in BSF for the year studying Revelation. I can honestly say I have never understood or made sense of the book of Revelation until lately. I have been going over your series of Revelation, along with the BSF workbook and class. I have never had a clearer understanding of the four horsemen., the 7 seals, and the 7 trumpets, which we are currently on in BSF, where they give thought-provoking questions, and then you have given me the answers. I really appreciate you for teaching all of this and Charles for taking the time to post and send it to me. It takes time to absorb it all, which I couldn't fully do with the Shabbat meetings(and I missed some), so having the whole series to keep going back to has been such a help in understanding Revelation. I have even shared with my BSF group what the four horsemen represent, which none of them knew. Thank you so much for your work and support. Love and blessings to all of you!
